What Are the Abortion Procedures?

Suction Aspiration Abortion

This is a surgical abortion that is commonly performed from 4-12 weeks gestation. As the name implies, this procedure literally removes the embryo by suction.

Suction Curettage

This surgical abortion procedure requires the doctor to physically stretch open the cervix prior to using the suction machine to remove the embryo. This abortion procedure literally refers to the dilation of the cervix and the surgical evacuation of the contents of the uterus (the fetus).

Dilation and Evacuation (Also Known as Dilation and Extraction)

This abortion procedure literally refers to the dilation of the cervix and the surgical evacuation of the contents of the uterus (the fetus).

The Abortion Pill

This drug is used for very early pregnancies to chemically terminate and induce labor like contractions to expel the contents of the uterus (the fetus). Just like surgical abortions, there are significant health risks in using the abortion pill.

This is only a brief summary of the abortion procedures most commonly used today. More complete details will be given to you when you make your appointment with one of our qualified staff members.
